Ingredients
- 1/4 fresh orange
- 3-4 thin slices fresh ginger root
- 1 (16 oz) bottle or can beer
- 4 cloves
- 1 small cinnamon stick (optional)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- pinch of ground cinnamon (for sprinkling, optional)
Instructions
- Wash the orange and cut it into quarters.
- Slice off 2-3 thin slices of orange and set them aside for garnish.
- Peel a small piece of ginger and cut 3-4 thin slices.
- In a pot, combine the beer, cloves, cinnamon stick, honey, and the juice from the orange quarter.
- Add the remaining squeezed part of the orange (including the peel) into the pot.
- Heat the mixture on low heat, allowing it to simmer gently without boiling.
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks with sugar until thick and fluffy.
- Gradually add hot beer from the pot to the egg mixture while whisking.
- Return the egg mixture to the pot and stir until thickened, without boiling.
- Strain the beer mixture into heat-resistant glasses or cups, and garnish with the saved orange slices.
- Lightly sprinkle with ground cinnamon and serve.
