Ingredients

  • 3 oz coffee
  • 2 oz Kahlua
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur)
  • 1/2 oz aged rum (or white or dark)
  • Granulated sugar, for rimming the glass
  • Lemon wedge
  • 1 large spoonful sweetened whipped cream, whipped to soft peaks
  • For the garnish: grated chocolate or fresh grated or ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the coffee and let it cool slightly.
  2. Whip the cream until it forms soft peaks.
  3. Use a lemon wedge to moisten a 1/2-inch of the glass rim and coat the outer edge with sugar to create a 1/2-inch band.
  4. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar on the glass until it turns brown.
  5. Add the coffee, Kahlua, triple sec, and rum to the glass, and stir gently.
  6. Carefully float the whipped cream on top using the back of a spoon.
  7. Garnish with grated chocolate or nutmeg.
