Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup cranberries (4 oz bag)
- 1 cup red wine (I used a shiraz)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 bag of Mulling Spice (I used Kauffman's brand)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, combine water and cranberries. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for about 25 minutes until the cranberries have softened.
- Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve, pressing down on the berries to release all the juice.
- Discard the cranberries and strain the juice again through a paper towel-lined sieve.
- Return the juice to the saucepan and add wine, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes until the sugar has dissolved.
- Remove from heat and add the mulling spice. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, adjusting the time according to your preference for spiciness.
- Taste the mulled wine and make any necessary adjustments. Serve warm or cold and enjoy. It can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
