Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup cranberries (4 oz bag)
  • 1 cup red wine (I used a shiraz)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 bag of Mulling Spice (I used Kauffman's brand)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine water and cranberries. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for about 25 minutes until the cranberries have softened.
  2. Strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve, pressing down on the berries to release all the juice.
  3. Discard the cranberries and strain the juice again through a paper towel-lined sieve.
  4. Return the juice to the saucepan and add wine, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes until the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Remove from heat and add the mulling spice. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, adjusting the time according to your preference for spiciness.
  6. Taste the mulled wine and make any necessary adjustments. Serve warm or cold and enjoy. It can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
